The research group that focuses on neglected diseases works to advance by means of scientific knowledge to combat infectious diseases that affect more vulnerable populations. It studies proteins in parasites in order to discover small molecules that affect their function in order to consequently control the progress of these diseases. The group focuses on proteins in Trypanosoma cruzi to discover drugs with potential use against Chagas disease, combining techniques like X-ray crystallography, high-throughput screening, metabolomics, transcriptomics, medicinal chemistry and animal testing in order to develop potential medications with proven efficacy in animal models.
