The program is aimed at undergraduate students in Exact Sciences, Engineering, Biological Sciences, and Health
The Brazilian Center for Research in Energy and Materials (CNPEM) has opened applications for the 33rd edition of the Summer Scholarship Program (PBV), an initiative that, since 1992, has been training young undergraduate students from Latin America and the Caribbean. The program is aimed at undergraduate students in the areas of Exact and Earth Sciences, Engineering, Technology, Biological Sciences, and Health, and has already welcomed more than 450 students throughout its editions.
Applications for the 33rd edition are free and open from August 8 to September 8, 2025, exclusively through the program website: Summer Scholarship Program | PBV33. The results of those selected will be announced on October 3, and the program will be held from January 7 to February 27, 2026.
PBV offers an immersive experience at one of Brazil’s most important research centers, connecting students with the frontiers of knowledge in several areas.
Projects to be developed during the PBV will be proposed by teams of CNPEM’s researchers and specialists, with multi and interdisciplinary approaches.
Only upon arriving at the CNPEM campus, in January 2026, will students discover which project they will develop, who their advisors will be, and in which CNPEM unit they will spend their “Summer Vacation.”
Benefits
Candidates approved in PBV33 will be received at the CNPEM campus, in Campinas-SP, starting January 7, 2026. During the program, students will have access to several benefits, including: round-trip airfare, psychological and educational support, travel assistance insurance, food, lodging, and daily transportation between the temporary residence and CNPEM.
The official PBV33 website provides all the necessary information for candidates, including details of benefits, application guidelines, desired participant profiles, and a comprehensive FAQ section.

About CNPEM
The Brazilian Center for Research in Energy and Materials (CNPEM) is home to a state-of-the-art, multi-user and multidisciplinary scientific environment and works on different fronts within the Brazilian National System for Science, Technology and Innovation. A social organization overseen by the Ministry of Science, Technology and Innovation (MCTI), CNPEM is driven by research that impacts the areas of health, energy, renewable materials, and sustainability. It is responsible for Sirius, the largest assembly of scientific equipment constructed in the country, and is currently constructing Project Orion, a laboratory complex for advanced pathogen research. Highly specialized science and engineering teams, sophisticated infrastructure open to the scientific community, strategic lines of investigation, innovative projects involving the productive sector, and training for researchers and students are the pillars of this institution that is unique in Brazil and able to serve as a bridge between knowledge and innovation. CNPEM’s research and development activities are carried out through its four National Laboratories: Synchrotron Light (LNLS), Biosciences (LNBio), Nanotechnology (LNNano), Biorenewables (LNBR), as well as its Technology Unit (DAT) and the Ilum School of Science — an undergraduate program in Science and Technology supported by the Ministry of Education (MEC).
