The Tissue Engineering Technology Center (NuTET) develops innovative tissue engineering solutions with a focus on regeneration, replacement and repair of human tissues. Using technologies like 3D bioprinting and microphysiological systems, NuTET’s activities range from formulation of biomaterials to creating three-dimensional cell cultures, with applications in regenerative medicine, drug discovery and toxicology.

The center works on research that is part of RENAMA (the Brazilian National Network for Alternatives to Animal Testing, an initiative of the Ministry of Science, Technology and Innovation, MCTI), which promotes methods to replace, reduce or improve the use of animals in research, teaching and laboratory testing. Within this context, NuTET develops 3D cell models and platforms such as the ToxChip, which simulates human organs in order to test the safety and efficacy of compounds.

NuTET is also investing in the development of biodressings and advanced therapies using personalized biomaterials to treat dermatological conditions, heart disease and eye injuries. All products undergo rigorous physical, chemical and biological testing, following the principles of good practice whenever possible. The center uses a multidisciplinary approach in order to make science more ethical, reproducible and personalized, in line with public policies on health, technological innovation and animal welfare.
