Symposium on Protein Design and Engineering: AI for protein design

The design and engineering of new proteins and peptides is revolutionizing biotechnology, with practical applications ranging from novel therapeutic and diagnostic solutions to the optimization of industrial processes and experimental tools. Artificial intelligence and computational approaches have been accelerating the accurate creation of novel functional proteins, bringing fundamental science closer to real-world applications and bridging research centers and industry. These advances are further supported by high-throughput experimental technologies that enable the large-scale generation and evaluation of proteins with greater efficiency.
The main goal of the event is to foster knowledge sharing, discussion, and training on the most recent advances in protein design, while integrating the global community and strengthening connections between academia and industry.
THE SYMPOSIUM
Kicking off with an opening ceremony on the afternoon of October 6th, followed by the main sessions on October 7th and 8th, CNPEM will host the second edition of the Symposium on Protein Design and Engineering. Supported by RosettaCommons, and with co-organizers from Fiocruz and industry (EMS), the symposium will feature leading international and Brazilian researchers in computational and experimental protein design, who will discuss and present recent advances in this rapidly evolving field. The symposium will showcase research across the full spectrum of protein design, including the development of AI- and computational-based methods, the de novo design of therapeutic binders, self-assembling proteins, biosensors, therapeutic peptides, and vaccines, combining computational and experimental approaches.
THE PRE-EVENT WORKSHOP
A two-day hands-on workshop on AI for Protein Design, held on October 5 and 6 at CNPEM, will mark the symposium pre-event. With international instructors and RosettaCommons members, the workshop will focus on training participants in advanced AI approaches and computational methods for protein design.

SELECTION CRITERIA
Given the limited number of participants, the following selection criteria will be applied to the workshop and symposium if the number of registrations exceeds our capacity:
- Submission of work for poster presentation within the symposium thematic area.
- Academic background, prioritizing researchers, postdoctoral fellows, graduate students, and then undergraduate students
- Geographic distribution
- Gender balance
For the workshop, applicants will be required to submit a set of documents upon registration, including motivation and recommendation letters.
