Detalhes
Tropical neglected diseases are a group of diseases that affect underprivileged populations and are characterized by the lack of pharmaceutical R&D investments. In this group, leishmaniasis and Chagas disease are noted for causing high morbidity, for being chronic and difficult to cure. An increase in drug discovery activities for these diseases during the last decade has encouraged advances of new candidates, however the lack of standardized methods and the scarcity of experimental models that relevantly reproduce the human disease both in vitro and in animal models hinders the achievement of significant progress. The aim of this symposium is to discuss current models for Chagas disease and leishmaniasis drug discovery, to search for solutions for the current limitations and present the new approach LNBio has taken in this direction.
