Seminar: "Use of electron microscopy for imaging biological systems"
Oct 07, 2013 | 8:30 am - 5:00 pm
Abstract: The study of biological systems by transmission electron microscopy (TEM) and scanning electron microscopy (SEM) has been successfully done over the last decades. From tissue and cell observation to reconstruction of macromolecular structures, different electron microscopy (EM) techniques can be employed. Tomography and single particle analysis are routinely used for obtaining a 3D reconstruction from a set of EM images. In this talk I will review some of the main techniques and aspects involved in imaging biological systems with EM, including issues such as 3D reconstruction, sample preparation, contrasting, low dose acquisition and radiation damage.
