It offers a holistic approach to understanding and facing threats to public health caused by microscopic pathogens. The Immunity and Pathogens Division is situated within the complex interaction between pathogens, human beings and the environment.<\/span><\/p>\n

    The Immunity and Pathogen Research Division is positioned to address the growing complexity of global health challenges, especially at the crossroads between pandemics like COVID-19, climate change, and the emergence of new infectious diseases.<\/p>\n

    Its role is to offer a holistic approach to exploring, facing, and preventing threats to public health, which range from immune response to the intricate interactions between pathogens and the environment.<\/p>\n

    The division’s mission is to understand the mechanisms of viral and bacterial diseases and those that more intensely affect vulnerable populations, like Chagas disease. To carry out this mission, it has medium and high containment biosafety laboratories (BSL-2 and BSL-3) for handling pathogens that are critical to public health, such as SARS-CoV-2 (Covid), the virus that causes yellow fever, and the Mayaro and Rocio viruses.<\/p>\n
