Drug Discovery

Decades of public investments have created strong competency in biomedical research in Brazil. However, this has not yet been translated into new medicines invented in our country and/or tailored to the Brazilian population unmet medical needs. The LNBio’s Center for Drug Discovery and Development comes to fill this gap.

The Center follows a consolidated model in which the drug is discovered at an academic research facility and further developed by the industry. Accordingly, we are sewing a partnership with a major pharmaceutical company in which, LNBio will be responsible for: drug discovery and early stages development whereas the partner will perform the preclinical and clinical tests and marketing.

An umbrella contract is being negotiated assuring a stable and long-lasting relationship involving a common agenda and mutual visits for project´s evaluation, counselling and follow-up. All projects will be conducted in compliance with plans mutually accorded, milestones and points for GO – NO GO decisions.

The Center for Drug Discovery and Development team is headed by the LNBio’s director, a senior scientist with experience on DD&D. He will be helped by project managers recruited from pharmaceutical industry and a full team of world class scientists working on the fields of cancer, cardiovascular & metabolic diseases and neglected diseases (such as Chagas Disease, leishmaniasis, malaria and dengue).
